Motorola Droid vs. Apple iPhone 3GS
There is no denying the fact that Apple’s iPhone has changed the game when it comes to touch-screen phones. It’s become the standard for competing companies to compare themselves to.
Lately though you may have noticed competitors finally speaking out and putting up a fight against the iPhone. Commercials such as “iDont” and “There’s a map for that” demonstrate companies like Verizon and Motorola finally getting brave enough to call out their opponent and it’s weaknesses.
In this Article we compare the iPhone’s next contender, the Motorola Droid. Can the Droid finally knock the iPhone out and take the belt as supreme-touch-screen-phone-ruler-of-the-world? It’s time to find out what all the hype’s about.
Call Quality
We’ll start off with Call Quality, since it doesn’t matter much how fancy a phone is if it can’t establish and maintain a decent connection.
Motorola Droid: The Droid’s call quality was excellent! The signal was always strong no matter where we went. Call quality was reliable and clear on both sides. No connectivity issues and the speakerphone was crystal clear.
Rating: 10/10
Apple iPhone 3GS: While the iPhone’s quality has improved, it still drops calls occasionally, background noise is sometimes a problem and there is definately more echo in the speakerphone. We even attempted to call our iPhone with the Droid right beside it and the iPhone didn’t ring.

Multimedia and Web Browsing
The iPhone and Droid aren’t just for making phone calls, though. They are full-featured entertainment systems with web browsers and digital music players. Here’s our experience:
Motorola Droid: We loved the Droid’s excellent web browser. Simplified list view of open windows, bookmarks and icon-based favorites really better the user’s experience and efficiency when it comes to browsing. Video quality was a bit disappointing though, lagging while playing standard MPEG-4. And while the 5-megapixel camera has better stats than the iPhone’s it’s picture quality definitely doesn’t reflect that.
Rating: 7/10
Apple iPhone 3GS: The iPhone’s music and video quality was absolutely excellent. Although we don’t like being forced to use iTunes, you’re offered a better selection of media to play than the Droid. Safari still reigns supreme as the best Mobile web browser out there.

Features
Motorola Droid: Simply put, the Motorola Droid offers a ton of features the iPhone does not. These features include a removable battery, higher resolution camera with a flash and editing options, free navigation software, and better multitasking and customization. The free built-in GPS with turn-by-turn navigation by Google is incredible.
Rating: 10/10
Apple iPhone 3GS: While not as feature-packed as the Droid, the iPhone does have it’s fair share. It now has MMS and the iTunes sync is a must-have, not to mention the app catalog is HUGE. Lack of navigation left us slightly disappointed.

Navigation
One of the most important things, especially to those of us who use our phones all day, every day, is how efficient the phone is and how easy it is to maneuver through it’s Menu’s and applications.
Motorola Droid: Android OS makes sense. The learning curve is minimal and pull-down for notifications is great. The keyboard isn’t the best, but sending out messages with it is a breeze. We especially didn’t like the fact there was no dedicated calling button.
Rating: 8/10
Apple iPhone 3GS: This is the easiest and most beautiful mobile OS to use. Even Apple haters have to admit the iPhone is extremely easy to use. Being able to access voice commands at any time is great.
Rating: 10/10
Look, size and feel
Motorola Droid: The Droid’s display is absolutely amazing. It is the most crystal clear thing we have seen to date. This phone is also very thin. The only complaint from us here is it seems to be a little blocky in design with it’s square corners.
Rating: 9/10
Apple iPhone 3GS: The iPhone is a simplistic, beautiful device that just seems to fit perfectly with the palm of your hand. Sleek and attractive, the rounded edges and curved back makes the iPhone something to show off.
Rating: 10/10
